Lower Limb Ischemia Pathway

Start your management and watch your symptoms

As you try different treatment and management options, remember that if something doesn’t work the way you thought it would, you can think about other options and connect with your healthcare provider to find what will work for you.

Watching your symptoms is important. Call your healthcare provider or Health Link at 811 if you notice:

  • changes to the pain in your foot or leg, especially when you are resting
  • changes to the colour of the skin on your legs
  • loss of movement or feeling to your leg or foot

Some symptoms are more serious and need to be checked right away. Call your healthcare provider right away if you have:

  • sudden or significant changes to the pain in your foot or leg
  • sudden changes to the colour of your leg or foot (like a pale colour or toes that are black and blue)
  • wounds that don’t heal after 2 weeks

If you can’t reach your healthcare provider, call Health Link at 811 any time, day or night.

Call 911 or go to the emergency department if you suddenly cannot use your leg or foot.

Ask your healthcare team what to expect in terms of follow-up communication. Call your healthcare team whenever you:

  • have questions
  • notice your symptoms getting worse
  • have problems with your medicine
  • haven’t gotten test results or heard back about an appointment in the time you had agreed to
