School Oral Health Services at Riverview Crossing

Preventive dental health services are offered to students in Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 to prevent tooth decay.

Eligibility

AHS (Alberta Health Services) health zones partner with schools in low income neighborhoods to provide preventive dental services at school.

How to access this service

Information about services along with a consent form is sent home to all students in eligible schools. A parent or legal guardian signature is required for service.

Birth Control Centre

Services offered include:

Counselling, information and referrals as needed on contraception, unplanned pregnancies, pregnancy options, and safe sex practices.

Contraceptives:

  • birth control pills
  • birth control injections (Depo Provera shots)
  • NuvaRing
  • EVRA patch
  • condoms
  • IUDs (intrauterine devices)
  • diaphragms
  • emergency contraception (the Morning After Pill/Plan B or copper IUD)

 Sexual health-related testing:

  • pregnancy testing
  • Pap testing
  • STIs testing (sexually transmitted infections) 

Clients are welcome to bring their partner or a friend for support.

This service provides a comprehensive range of routine and specialized lab testing and clinical consultation, services may include:

  • blood and body fluid sample collection
  • biochemistry and toxicology
  • urinalysis
  • transfusion medicine
  • hematology
  • coagulation studies
  • microbiology
  • serology
  • surgical pathology
  • cytopathology
  • autopsy pathology
  • student practicum training for medical lab technologists and medical lab assistants

School Oral Health Services

Services are offered to eligible schools and may include:

  • fluoride varnish, provided to kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
  • dental sealants, provided to Grade 1 and Grade 2

A child diagnosed with asthma must have their short acting asthma reliever medication with them to receive service.
